Mamey

12 inches x 12 inches
Acrylic on Canvas

A Mamey immersed within an abstract composition of newspaper articles collage and pictorial representations of snake forms.

According to the Bible, Adam and Eve were expelled from Eden because they ate from the Tree of Knowledge. We are no better than them. In fact, humanity seems to use it’s knowledge for creating far more atrocities to itself and the planet, and it seems to get worse as time passes. Perhaps we move farther away from heaven as we move away from sanity. This series is a reminder of those times, when, sins used to simply involve fruits. The snake represents the constant temptation in our everyday life.

The use of newspaper collage covered by paint signifies the daily news and innumerable events that occur in the world. Sometimes we are so focused on our own personal issues that we become oblivious to important crises that are shaping our society. Though the information is available to us on many levels, some people, including myself at times, choose, or are forced, to ignore it.
